Kelly Pick has been a Registered Nurse for 32 years, and she holds a master’s degree in Nursing Education. She is also Board Certified in Nursing Professional Development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has always been passionate about patient education and empowering her patients to make their own health care decisions based on a clear understanding of the issues they are facing.

As the coordinator for Patient and Community Education at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington, Kelly has taught health literacy and Teach Back principles since 2011 to all new and existing staff members who teach patients, including nurses, providers and ancillary personnel. Kelly has also conducted Teach Back education sessions with community partners such as physician residency programs, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies. In addition, Kelly has spoken multiple times on Teach-Back and Health Literacy Principles at the Oregon Council of Health Care Educators (OCHE), on whose Board she sits. She also won the People’s Choice award for her poster presentation on Teach-Back at the Greater Portland Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses in 2012. Kelly exemplifies the Teach-Back principles with her engaging and interactive teaching style.
