Abstract:

Come and test your knowledge of language varieties (both dialectal and social) and discuss the roles they play in effective communication. See what some organizations are doing to produce linguistic and culturally competent publications and hear how limited English proficiency speakers feel about it.

  • Evaluate a variety of glossaries and their benefit to better serve limited English proficiency (LEP) audiences
  • Recognize the role played by language varieties (both dialectal and social) in effective intercultural communication
  • Identify some of the characteristics of inclusive glossaries
