Abstract:

Health care in the United States has become increasingly complex. According to a national survey, 88% of U.S. adults have difficulty understanding currently available health information. In addition, a high and rising burden is placed on patients to navigate the health care system and manage their own conditions. Cindy Brach, Senior Health Policy Researcher at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, will discuss the imperative to become a health literate organization—an organization that reduces the demands made on patients—and the tools available to help organizations make patient navigation and understanding easier.
